Pakistan and Norway signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding the training and certification of Pakistani seafarers.
An MoU was signed between the Pakistani Embassy in Norway and the Maritime Authority, read a press statement on Tuesday. Welcoming the development, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said that maritime cooperation between Pakistan and Norway will be further strengthened.
He added that the agreement will create new employment opportunities in the maritime sector, saying that Pakistani seafarers will be able to serve on Norwegian-flagged vessels. “The agreement is an important milestone for the Pakistani workforce in the global shipping industry,” Chaudhry was quoted as saying Opportunities to gain practical experience in modern maritime practices will increase, the minister said He added that this agreement between the two countries reflects the growing ties in the maritime sector. Through it, Pakistani professional credentials will be aligned with Norway’s internationally recognised standards, thereby increasing employment opportunities on a global scale. Chaudhry said that Pakistan has long been seeking to expand opportunities for its seafaring community.
