Provincial Minister for Information and Culture Punjab, Azma Bokhari, met with a high-level delegation from ASEAN countries led by Indonesian Ambassador Chandra Warsi. In honor of the distinguished guests, the Punjab Information and Culture Department hosted a formal dinner reception.
Azma Bokhari, along with Secretary Information Punjab Syed Tahir Raza Hamdani, warmly welcomed the delegation. During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the cultural sector and promoting shared heritage between Punjab and ASEAN member states. The delegation was also briefed on the initiatives undertaken by the government of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to revive and promote the province’s cultural identity.
Speaking on the occasion, Azma Bokhari stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is working tirelessly to restore and nurture Punjab’s rich cultural traditions and civilizational heritage. She emphasized that Punjab’s culture is unique and deeply rooted, with vibrant traditions that reflect the province’s historical strength. Under the dynamic leadership of Maryam Nawaz, Punjab is making remarkable progress across all sectors, including culture.
Indonesian Ambassador Chandra Warsi expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Punjab government. He remarked that he was highly impressed by the rich cultural environment of Punjab, particularly Lahore. Praising the spirit of the people, he noted that Lahoris are welcoming, respectful, and full of life.
The ASEAN delegation was also taken on visits to Lahore’s iconic landmarks, including Wagah Border and Shalimar Gardens, where they appreciated the region’s historical beauty and cultural significance.
At the conclusion of the event, Azma Bokhari presented honorary shields to the members of the delegation. The visiting delegation termed their trip to Punjab as memorable and thanked the Government of Punjab for the excellent arrangements and hospitality.
Separately, Azma Bokhari has extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected office-bearers of the Lahore High Court Court Reporters Association following their success in the annual elections for 2026-27.
In her congratulatory message, she conveyed best wishes to President Ibad-ul-Haq, Senior Vice President Yousaf Shah, Vice President Munir Ahmad Bajwa, Secretary Shakeel Saeed, Vice President (District Courts) Naeem Malik, Finance Secretary Jamal-ud-Din Jamali, Information Secretary Affan Riaz, and Head of Digital Media Ijlal Haider Zaidi, expressing confidence in their success.
Appreciating the professional services of court reporters, Azma Bokhari stated that conveying judicial proceedings to the public with accuracy is a highly responsible duty, which court reporters are performing commendably. She noted that court reporting is more challenging and sensitive than many other fields of journalism, as it requires careful handling of legal complexities while ensuring factual accuracy.
She further remarked, “Journalists who continue court reporting in the field despite extreme weather and challenging conditions truly deserve appreciation.” Azma Bokhari expressed hope that the newly elected body will uphold journalistic ethics and play an active role in improving the welfare of the journalist community as well as enhancing the standards of court reporting.
She concluded by offering prayers for their success and assured full support from the Department of Information.
