Geoff Allott appointed as new NZ cricket chief executive

Published on: April 28, 2026 7:06 PM

New Zealand Cricket has appointed former international player Geoff Allott as its new chief executive officer, marking a major leadership change ahead of the 2026 season. The organisation confirmed that Allott will officially begin his role on July 1, bringing both playing and administrative experience to the top position.

Officials said the appointment makes New Zealand Cricket one of the first major sporting bodies in the country to confirm its senior leadership for the upcoming cycle. The decision reflects a strategic move to combine cricketing insight with business expertise at the executive level of the organisation.

Allott previously represented New Zealand as a fast bowler, playing 10 Test matches and 31 One Day Internationals during his international career. After retiring from professional cricket, he moved into business and sports administration, gaining experience in leadership roles that contributed to his selection for the top job.

Cricket officials highlighted that his background as a former player gives him a strong understanding of the game’s internal structure, player needs, and development pathways. They believe this experience will help him guide the organisation through future challenges in both domestic and international cricket.

The new CEO will take charge at a time when New Zealand Cricket is focusing on long-term planning, commercial growth, and strengthening performance at the international level. His responsibilities will include managing operations, supporting talent development, and ensuring financial stability for the governing body.

With his formal appointment set for July 1, expectations are high that Allott will bring a balanced approach combining sporting knowledge and executive leadership. Cricket stakeholders believe his transition from player to administrator could help shape a more dynamic future for New Zealand cricket.
