Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has claimed that US President Donald Trump has requested negotiations with Tehran, adding that Iran is currently reviewing the proposal.

In a statement, Araghchi said Washington’s alleged outreach comes after it failed to achieve its objectives in the ongoing conflict involving Iran. He suggested that the request for talks reflects a shift in the United States’ approach amid escalating regional tensions.

The remarks come at a time of heightened geopolitical strain, with both countries engaged in indirect confrontation and diplomatic exchanges. While the US has not officially confirmed the claim, analysts note that backchannel communications are often used in such situations to explore de-escalation options.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin also signalled a willingness to mediate between the two sides. Speaking after a meeting with Araghchi in Moscow, the Russian president said his country was prepared to support efforts aimed at safeguarding regional stability and the interests of Iran and neighbouring states.

Putin emphasised that ties between Russia and Iran are based on strategic cooperation and would continue to strengthen. In response, Araghchi thanked Russia for its support and reiterated that bilateral relations between Tehran and Moscow are grounded in long-term partnership.

The developments highlight ongoing diplomatic manoeuvring as global powers seek to manage tensions in the region. Observers say any potential negotiations between Washington and Tehran could have significant implications for regional security, energy markets, and international relations.

However, uncertainty remains over whether formal talks will take place, as both sides continue to exchange strong rhetoric alongside diplomatic signals. Analysts caution that while dialogue could reduce tensions, deep-rooted disagreements may pose challenges to any breakthrough.

For now, Iran’s claim has added a new dimension to the evolving situation, with international attention focused on whether it will lead to concrete diplomatic engagement.
