Karachi air routes restrictions announced for two days

Published on: April 27, 2026 3:48 PM

The Pakistan Airports Authority has announced temporary restrictions on several key air routes within Karachi, issuing a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to inform airlines and pilots of the changes.

According to the advisory, multiple routes within the Karachi Flight Information Region will remain closed on April 28 and 29 between 7:00am and 10:30am each day. The restrictions apply from ground level to all altitudes, indicating a comprehensive limitation on affected airspace segments.

Pakistan has issued a new series of notifications ahead of an upcoming live-fire exercise and potential weapons testing, introducing extensive airspace restrictions across multiple aviation corridors along its coastline.

Officials said the closures are being implemented for operational reasons, though specific details were not publicly disclosed. Among the impacted routes is the corridor connecting Karachi with Nawabshah, which is considered an important link for domestic air traffic.

In addition, several aviation sectors between Dosti and Karachi will be temporarily suspended. Other key corridors, including Milom, Tapdo, Bewin, and Banor, are also listed in the advisory as part of the restricted zones. Routes originating from Ormio in various directions, along with the Pexor to Banor corridor, will remain unavailable during the specified hours.

To minimise disruption, authorities have arranged alternative routes for airlines. These include both one-way and two-way corridors designed to maintain traffic flow while avoiding the restricted zones. Alternate paths from Karachi to Dodu and Nawabshah have been provided, along with additional routing options through PG to IDIBA, Nawabshah, and Telem.

The aviation authority has advised airlines to plan flights carefully and follow the updated routing instructions. Passengers have been encouraged to stay in contact with their respective airlines for the latest information regarding schedules and potential delays.

Aviation experts note that such temporary restrictions are typically issued for safety or operational management purposes and are a routine part of airspace control.
