PTI power show in Muzaffarabad faces unexpectedly low turnout

Published on: April 26, 2026 6:40 PM

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf organised a political gathering in Muzaffarabad aiming to present the event as a show of strength beyond Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The party had arranged banners, media coverage, and extensive seating to create the impression of a large political mobilisation in the region.

According to event arrangements, more than 1,100 chairs were placed at the venue to accommodate participants expected to attend the gathering. However the turnout did not match the preparations made by organisers. As a result hundreds of seats remained empty despite the visible efforts to generate a strong political atmosphere.

Sohail Afridi, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, arrived at the venue and addressed supporters during the event. Nevertheless reports from the ground suggested that more than 300 chairs remained unoccupied throughout the gathering. Consequently the anticipated crowd size did not fully materialise during the political programme.

Party organisers had hoped the event would demonstrate PTI’s ability to mobilise supporters in Azad Kashmir. However observers noted that the attendance raised questions about the party’s organisational strength outside its traditional political base. Therefore the event sparked discussion about the effectiveness of local mobilisation strategies.

Political analysts say the situation highlighted the importance of strong grassroots organisation when holding large-scale rallies. Moreover they noted that political popularity is often measured through active participation at public events rather than promotional arrangements. The turnout therefore provided a moment for reflection regarding party outreach efforts.

The gathering was initially intended to demonstrate PTI’s expanding political influence beyond Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. However the attendance numbers shifted the focus toward organisational challenges and voter engagement. Observers believe the party may need to reconnect with supporters and strengthen its ground network in other regions.
