In a recent statement, Newsom criticised US President Donald Trump, holding his administration responsible for rising inflation and increasing fuel prices across the country. He argued that the ongoing conflict in Iran has contributed to higher costs of living, including surging gas prices and broader inflationary pressure on American households.
Newsom stated that the war has placed unnecessary strain on the economy and has failed to deliver any meaningful strategic benefits. He urged policymakers to reconsider the direction of US foreign policy and prioritise stability and economic recovery at home.
His comments come amid growing political debate in Washington over the scale and impact of US involvement in the Iran conflict. Critics of the war argue that prolonged military engagement is worsening economic conditions and increasing public dissatisfaction.
Separately, US Senator Tammy Baldwin also voiced concerns about the consequences of continued military operations. She supported legislative efforts to limit presidential war powers, stating that war has led to rising costs, inflation, and personal losses for American families without delivering clear benefits.
The debate reflects broader divisions within US politics over foreign policy priorities, particularly as economic pressures mount domestically. While some officials defend the administration’s actions as necessary for national security, others are increasingly calling for diplomatic solutions and de-escalation.

Newsom’s remarks add to a growing chorus of voices questioning the sustainability of ongoing military involvement in the region, as public concern over economic stability continues to rise.
