KP government fails in maintaining peace, good governance: Mian Iftikhar

Published on: April 23, 2026 2:22 AM

President, Awami National Party (ANP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Wednesday said that the provincial government has completely failed to ensure peace and good governance in the province.

He said this at a meeting of the provincial cabinet of Awami National Party Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at here Bacha Khan Markaz.

The meeting was attended by Senior Vice President Syed Aqil Shah, General Secretary Hussain Shah Yousafzai, spokesperson Arslan Khan Nazim and cabinet members. Detailed discussions were held on organizational matters, the current political situation and other important issues.

Addressing the meeting, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said local government elections were expected to be announced at any time, therefore the party organization must be fully prepared at all levels. He directed that organizational structures at village, neighborhood, union council, tehsil and district levels be further strengthened and activated and incomplete setups be completed at the earliest.

The meeting also decided to form supervisory committees at the provincial level to visit districts and review organizational performance.

Participants also discussed the overall regional situation. They appreciated Pakistan’s positive role in promoting peace and welcomed its efforts in facilitating a ceasefire between Iran and United States.

Mian Iftikhar emphasised that the Awami National Party (ANP) followed the philosophy of non-violence of Bacha Khan and has always opposed war, stating that war did not solve problems but rather create further complications. He added that the ANP has consistently supported peaceful relations with neighboring countries.

He stressed that all issues with Afghanistan should be resolved through dialogue and diplomatic channels and friendly relations should be established with all neighboring countries on the basis of equality.

The participants strongly condemned the recent firing and attacks on the houses of former provincial minister Ayub Khan Ashari and ANP Swat Senior Vice President Mumtaz Ali Khan, demanding that those responsible be brought to justice without delay.

Mian Iftikhar Hussain reiterated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has completely failed in maintaining peace and ensuring good governance. He stated that incidents of terrorism and unrest were increasing day by day due to the incompetence of the ruling authorities and the government must show seriousness in resolving public issues.

He further said that the National Action Plan was a unanimously agreed framework against terrorism and lasting peace could not be achieved without its full implementation. He affirmed that the Awami National Party would continue its struggle for peace, democracy and public rights on every platform.
