Masoud Pezeshkian has highlighted a deep trust deficit in relations between Iran and the United States, stressing that genuine negotiations depend on strict adherence to promises and agreements. In a message shared on social media, the Iranian president emphasised that meaningful diplomacy cannot progress without credibility, adding that long-standing mistrust continues to shape interactions between the two countries.
Moreover, Pezeshkian said the Iranian people clearly understand the behaviour and policies of Washington over the years, claiming that the United States often attempts to pressure Iran into submission. He asserted that Iran would not surrender to external pressure under any circumstances, stressing that national independence and dignity remain central to the country’s political stance and diplomatic approach.

Furthermore, the Iranian president criticised what he described as conflicting signals coming from American officials in recent weeks. According to him, these mixed messages create confusion and weaken diplomatic efforts at a time when relations between Tehran and Washington already remain tense and fragile. He warned that inconsistent messaging undermines trust and complicates any serious attempt to improve dialogue between the two governments.
In a related development, Saeed Khatibzadeh responded to comments made by former U.S. president Donald Trump, saying the remarks reflected a pattern of contradictory statements often posted on social media. Khatibzadeh suggested that such comments do not deserve significant attention, as they frequently shift in tone and lack consistency.

Additionally, Khatibzadeh stressed that the United States must abandon what he described as a “self-interested approach” in its dealings with Iran. He emphasised that Washington must fully respect the rights and sovereignty of the Iranian people, arguing that mutual respect and fairness remain the only realistic path toward stable and constructive relations.
The comments from Iranian officials come as diplomatic tensions continue to influence the broader political climate between the two nations. While discussions about engagement occasionally surface, the persistent lack of trust and differing expectations on both sides remain significant obstacles to rebuilding long-term diplomatic confidence.
