Notorious robber held after encounter with police

Published on: April 21, 2026 3:45 AM

A dangerous proclaimed offender involved in more than 200 cases of robbery, theft, and dacoity was arrested in an injured condition following a late-night police encounter near Buha Pur in the jurisdiction of Police Station Bahauddin Zakariya.

According to police sources, a police team was conducting routine patrol, crime checking, and snap checking near Buha Pur Road, when four suspicious individuals riding two motorcycles approached the checkpoint. When signaled to stop, the suspects dismounted and opened indiscriminate fire on the police party. The police personnel took defensive positions to protect themselves and repeatedly warned the suspects to surrender. However, the assailants continued firing, prompting the police to retaliate with limited defensive firing under the right of self-defense.

After an exchange of fire lasting several minutes, three suspects managed to escape under the cover of darkness. During a search of the area using torches and official vehicle lights, police found one suspect lying injured near the road. He had sustained a bullet injury to his right ankle, caused by firing from his own accomplices. Police recovered a 30-bore pistol from the arrested suspect, who identified himself as Muhammad Ramzan s/o Abdul Majeed, a resident of Farooq Pura, Multan. Record verification revealed that the accused was a hardened criminal with a history of more than 200 cases related to robbery and other serious offenses. Following the incident, police launched a blockade across nearby areas to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The injured accused was shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan by Rescue 1122 for medical treatment. Police stated that further investigation and raids were underway to arrest the remaining accomplices.
