A delegation of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Supreme Court Bar Association met with Sindh Minister for Law and Home, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, at the Sindh Assembly. The delegation was led by Senior Vice Chairman Khalid Masood Sandhu and included Secretary Malik Zahid Aslam along with representatives of lawyers from all four provinces.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the welfare of the legal community, the challenges faced by lawyers, and the promotion of legal facilities. The delegation proposed the establishment of a modern hostel in Karachi for lawyers on the pattern of Islamabad and requested financial support from the Sindh government.
The law Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar assured full cooperation, stating that all possible steps would be taken to resolve the issues faced by lawyers. He further said that the matter of establishing the hostel would also be taken up with the federal government and the President of Pakistan. He added that being a lawyer himself, he is well aware of the community’s concerns. He reiterated that the Pakistan Peoples Party firmly believes in the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law, and that the Sindh government is providing full support to all bar associations.
On this occasion, the Sindh Bar Council also requested the establishment of a hospital for lawyers and their families and sought government assistance for a project planned on its own land. The Law Secretary, during a briefing, informed that the feasibility report and PC-1 for the project are being prepared, upon which the minister directed that work be expedited.
The meeting was attended by Advocate General Sindh Javed Dero, Law Secretary Ali Ahmed Baloch, Additional Advocate General Qazi Bashir, Sindh Bar Council Vice Chairman Ishtiaq Memon, Executive Committee Chairman Ayaz Tunio, former High Court Bar President Sarfraz Metlo, and others. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Sindh Law and Home Minister presented traditional Ajrak and Sindhi caps to the delegation members as a gesture of cultural hospitality.
