8th April 2026 was a high point in the diplomatic history of Pakistan when its unprecedented role helped broker a ceasefire deal between Washington and Tehran, who were on the edge of entering a dangerous phase.
After the ceasefire, America and Iran sent high-powered delegations for talks in Islamabad, which reflected their strong desire for talks and an off-ramp from the conflict.
The diplomatic marathon attended by four hundred members from both sides is being called the biggest diplomatic exercise in the history of modern diplomacy. In the first round of talks at Islamabad, although both sides could not reach a final deal, their engagement set the stage for a broader peace process.
At the time of writing, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership is travelling across the region’s capitals to seal a workable deal.
Once again, to pick up the thread from where they left off, both sides are gearing up for the second round of the talks in Islamabad. American President Donald Trump, while talking to the media, has categorically mentioned holding the second round of Islamabad talks. The Iranian side has also signalled the same intention.
Right from the first day of the Middle East crisis, Pakistan’s balanced & quiet diplomacy, the confidence of both warring sides and last but not least the urge for peaceful settlement of the issue played a vital role in the ceasefire followed by the first round of Islamabad talks. Islamabad’s hectic shuttle diplomacy brought two foes to the negotiation table and put an immediate end to jet bombardment and missile fighting. This was not a small diplomatic feat and was rightly acknowledged across the spectrum.
The appreciation of Islamabad’s smart and intelligent diplomatic moves across the spectrum has dismantled the basis of Indian foreign policy centred on framing Pakistan as a terrorist state and a sponsor of terrorism.
For decades, Indians have been very cunningly running disinformation campaigns against Pakistan to divert attention from the worst form of brutalities and barbaric acts against innocent Kashmiris demanding their legal right of self-determination.
In another major development, a 10-day ceasefire has been announced between Israel and Lebanon. Pakistan and Iran have welcomed a truce as part of a broader engagement to pause the regional conflict.
At the time of writing, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership is travelling across the region’s capitals to seal a workable deal.
The entire international community has crossed fingers with hope for a breakthrough. Diplomatic sources are also very hopeful that Islamabad Talks 2.0 will restore peace in the Middle East and save the global economic meltdown triggered by the ongoing conflict.
