The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced the detailed schedule for the delimitation process ahead of local government elections in Punjab, setting clear deadlines for each stage to ensure timely completion of the exercise.

According to an official statement, the delimitation will be carried out under the Punjab Local Government Act, with authorities instructed to follow a structured timeline for mapping and finalising union council boundaries across the province.

The ECP said that the initial administrative work related to delimitation will be completed by April 16. Following this, preliminary lists of union council boundaries will be made public between April 20 and 21, allowing citizens to review the proposed changes.

The commission has also introduced a public consultation phase. Citizens will be able to submit objections to the proposed delimitations starting May 26, with the deadline for filing complaints set for June 23. This step is intended to ensure transparency and public participation in the electoral process.

Once objections are received, they will be reviewed and addressed by the relevant authorities, with all decisions expected to be finalised by July 22. The ECP has directed delimitation committees to ensure that all grievances are properly documented and resolved within the stipulated timeframe.

After the completion of the review process, the commission will inform all delimitation committees of the final decisions by August 4. This will pave the way for the publication of the final list of union council boundaries across Punjab, scheduled for August 10.

Officials said the completion of delimitation is a key prerequisite for holding local government elections, as it defines electoral constituencies and ensures fair representation at the grassroots level.

The ECP reiterated its commitment to conducting a transparent and legally compliant process, emphasising that the timeline has been designed to avoid unnecessary delays in the upcoming local government polls.
