Guterres praised Pakistan’s efforts in organising talks focused on achieving a ceasefire between the two countries, describing the initiative as a positive step toward de-escalation. He also expressed full support for Pakistan’s continued diplomatic role in encouraging dialogue.

During the conversation, the UN secretary-general emphasised that there is no military solution to the crisis in the Middle East. He stressed the need for serious negotiations to resume and underlined the importance of respecting international maritime rights and freedoms.

The recent talks in Islamabad were part of broader diplomatic efforts involving United States and Iran, with Pakistan acting as a facilitator. The discussions are seen as a crucial attempt to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation in an already volatile region.

In response, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to promoting peace through dialogue and diplomacy. He reiterated that Pakistan would continue to support initiatives aimed at achieving long-term regional stability.

Officials said the exchange reflects growing international recognition of Pakistan’s diplomatic role in addressing complex geopolitical challenges. The development also highlights Islamabad’s efforts to position itself as a mediator in key global conflicts.
