Sindh urges federal action on worsening gas supply

Published on: April 15, 2026 8:53 AM

Sindh Government spokesperson has expressed serious concern over the persistent & worsening and gas crisis across the province, particularly in Karachi, where unannounced outages during designated meal hours are severely disrupting daily life.

In a press statement, Sindh Government Spokesperson, Sukhdev Hemnani, stated that gas supply is being disrupted without prior notice, even during the limited hours allocated for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He termed this a serious lapse in service delivery and said it is unacceptable. These unannounced shutdowns have left households across Sindh struggling to cook meals and forced many to rely on costly alternatives. He noted that the situation has caused widespread distress with citizens turning to expensive alternatives resulting in increased financial burden on already inflation-hit families.

Hemnani further pointed out that a similar situation persists in gas-producing districts such as Ghotki, Shikarpur and other areas of Sindh, where despite being key contributors to the country’s natural gas production, residents continue to face chronic low pressure and unannounced load-shedding throughout the year. He noted that the continued denial of basic energy access in these areas, even as gas is extracted from their land, has intensified a sense of deprivation among local communities.

Hemnani underscored that the burden of this crisis is falling disproportionately on ordinary citizens. “Despite claims by SSGC that supply is being ensured during meal times, the ground reality reflects a complete failure of service delivery,” he stated, adding that such discrepancies between official claims and public experience are unacceptable.

Emphasizing that gas allocation and distribution fall under federal jurisdiction, Hemnani called upon the Prime Minister and relevant federal authorities to take immediate corrective measures. He urged the implementation of a transparent supply schedule and an end to unannounced gas outages, particularly during essential meal hours.
