Emergency declared in Murree after heavy rains

Published on: April 11, 2026 7:33 AM

Authorities have intensified emergency and rescue operations in Murree and adjoining areas after heavy rains created an emergency-like situation, with landslides reported at multiple locations.

Rescue 1122 has mobilized all available resources, with personnel deployed round the clock to respond to road accidents, medical emergencies and other incidents.

Officials said relief and rescue efforts have been accelerated in affected areas including Jhika Gali following landslides caused by recent downpours.

The district administration said priority is being given to restoration of blocked roads, rehabilitation of affected people and continuation of relief activities.

Monitoring of operations is being carried out 24 hours a day through district and Rescue 1122 control rooms to ensure timely response.

Departments including Communication and Works, Highways, Rescue 1122 and Civil Defence are working in coordination in the field, with additional staff deployed to improve response.

Authorities have advised citizens and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and contact relevant departments in case of emergency.

Meanwhile, Relief operations are underway in Jhika Gali area after heavy rains triggered landslides, affecting local residents and disrupting normal life.

On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Murree, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab dispatched essential relief goods to the affected area following an urgent request by the district administration.

Officials said landslides occurred at multiple places in Jhika Gali due to torrential rains, creating difficulties for residents and prompting immediate response measures.

The relief supplies include mattresses, blankets, plastic mats, mosquito nets, clean drinking water and food hampers, which will be distributed among affected families.

The district administration said all relevant departments are present in the field, while relief centres have been activated to facilitate affected.

Officials added that operations are continuing without interruption and the situation is being closely monitored to address any emergency promptly.

Moreover, the Murree administration has stepped up damage assessment and restoration activities after heavy rains caused infrastructure issues and raised landslide risks in several areas.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Umar Awais Kayani visited Chatta Morr, Bansra Gali, Barian and other affected areas to review the situation and assess damages.

During the visit, he inspected roads, residential areas and drainage systems, noting issues including damaged roads, blocked drainage and potential landslide risks.

He met local residents, listened to their concerns and gathered details about losses, as citizens urged immediate relief and rehabilitation measures.

The officer directed relevant departments to conduct a transparent and comprehensive damage assessment and submit reports without delay to ensure effective relief planning.

He also instructed authorities to prioritize road restoration, debris removal and improvement of drainage systems to ease public difficulties.

Officials said the administration is utilizing all available resources to expedite relief and rehabilitation work, adding that no negligence or delay will be tolerated.

Monitoring has been further tightened to ensure quality and pace of ongoing work, while residents expressed hope for both immediate relief and long-term infrastructure restoration.
