Kundi discusses relief and climate action with Tirah elders, PDF

Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday held separate meetings with a delegation of Tirah elders and representatives of Pakistan Development Foundation (PDF) at Governor House, discussing issues related to relief activities and climate change.

A delegation of Tirah elders, led by tribal leader Shamsuddin, apprised the Governor about the difficulties being faced by the affected people of Tirah.

The delegation highlighted challenges in the provision of aid, obstacles in relief distribution, and expressed concerns regarding the situation on the ground. They urged the Governor to ensure that rehabilitation efforts and relief operations are made more effective and transparent. The delegation also appreciated the provision of assistance through the Red Crescent and acknowledged the governor’s efforts in supporting the affected communities.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi said that he had consistently raised his voice for the assistance of Tirah affectees at every forum. He added that relief had been provided through the Red Crescent at different times and assured that the process would continue in the future. He stressed the need for transparency in relief activities to ensure timely and fair distribution of aid to deserving individuals. The Governor also supported the proposal of involving local youth in surveys and related activities to create employment opportunities and enhance transparency.

In another meeting, a delegation of Pakistan Development Foundation led by Chairman Bilal Sethi including Sobia Kiramat Chugharmati and Sehrish Zafar of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University also met the Governor. The delegation included representatives from Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the role of Governor House in addressing climate change challenges in the province. The delegation presented various proposals aimed at tackling environmental issues and raising awareness.

Governor Kundi said that climate change has become a serious global issue, affecting not only Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but the entire country. He emphasized that youth have a major responsibility in addressing climate challenges and can play a key role in this regard.

He underscored the importance of incorporating climate considerations into policymaking, awareness campaigns, and practical measures to ensure a safer and better environment for future generations.

Both sides agreed to promote joint efforts and enhance youth participation to effectively address climate change challenges in the province.
