A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Muhammad Asif issued the directive while hearing petitions related to the £190 million case and pleas seeking suspension of sentences for Khan and his spouse Bushra Bibi.
During proceedings, National Accountability Bureau prosecutors Javed Ashraf and Rafi Maqsood appeared before the court, while Safdar represented the PTI founder. The court was informed that the previous hearing could not take place due to the bench’s unavailability.
Safdar requested permission to meet his client, referring to a prior court order. The bench approved the request and instructed authorities to facilitate the meeting at the specified time. The chief justice emphasized that the counsel should first consult with his client before further proceedings.
The lawyer also urged the court to take up applications for suspension of sentences, particularly highlighting Bushra Bibi’s plea. In response, the court indicated willingness to expedite the appeals process, stating that hearings could be scheduled twice weekly and decided within a short timeframe once arguments commence.
Khan, who has been in custody since August 2023, faces multiple charges including corruption and terrorism following his removal from office in April 2022. His legal team has also raised concerns about his health, citing a serious eye condition that reportedly caused significant vision loss.
