Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a high-level meeting to review four major healthcare projects, emphasizing the provincial government’s commitment to delivering free medical treatment across Punjab.
During the session, officials highlighted the children’s heart surgery programme, reporting that 16,625 children have been registered, with more than 11,000 successful surgeries already completed. Public hospitals in the province have performed 7,664 cardiac surgeries and related procedures for children, ensuring access to life-saving treatment.
The meeting also noted the inclusion of private hospitals in the initiative, where 3,802 underprivileged children received treatment at government expense. The integration of private facilities aims to expand coverage and reduce waiting times for critical procedures.
Under the CM Special Transplant Programme, 2,001 patients have registered, with 1,574 successful transplants performed so far. This includes 255 liver transplants costing around Rs6.5 million each, 799 kidney transplants, 460 cochlear implants, 32 corneal transplants, and 28 bone marrow transplants — all provided free of charge.
The provincial dialysis programme has also made significant progress, registering 38,125 patients and conducting over 1.5 million dialysis sessions to date. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the government is committed to offering equal care for all citizens, ensuring that both rich and poor children receive the best possible healthcare services.
