The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has activated its emergency response system and appointed focal persons at the district level to ensure timely and effective action, in anticipation of possible rainfall.
Adviser for Rehabilitation, Gianchand Esrani, has instructed PDMA to remain fully prepared to tackle any adverse weather conditions.
He stated that from today until April 4, Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, and other districts are expected to experience intermittent rainfall.
DG PDMA, Salman Shah, said that dewatering pumps would be deployed at key locations in Karachi for the prompt drainage of rainwater, and rescue teams would be stationed on main roads to assist citizens if needed.
Director General PDMA Sindh Salman Shah said the authority is fully prepared to tackle the expected weather conditions.
He added that 10 dewatering pumps would be deployed at key locations to ensure timely drainage of rainwater, while five rescue teams would be stationed along major roads to assist motorists in case of waterlogging or breakdowns.
The PDMA has also designated focal persons across various districts, including Karachi East, Central, West, South, Korangi, Keamari, Malir, Hyderabad and Sukkur, to ensure a coordinated and timely response.
The officials have been directed to remain on high alert, maintain field presence and coordinate with local administration for drainage, emergency response and relief operations.
Salman Shah added that In view of the forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicting rain, strong winds, thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms in the coming days.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued a province-wide alert and directed all deputy commissioners to ensure necessary preparedness.
A westerly weather system is expected to enter the southwestern parts of Balochistan from today and may persist until April 4. Under its influence, intermittent rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are likely in several districts, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Dadu, Kashmore, Jacobabad, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Tharparkar between April 2 and 4. Hailstorms are also expected in isolated areas.
The authority warned that lightning and strong winds could damage standing crops and vulnerable infrastructure, including solar panels, billboards and electric poles.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period, while farmers have been urged to take precautionary measures. A drop in daytime temperatures is also expected.
The measures are part of precautionary efforts aimed at minimizing potential damage and ensuring swift response in rain-affected areas across the province.
Salman Shah said all relevant institutions are working under an integrated disaster response mechanism to safeguard life and property, adding that the province’s disaster management capacity had improved significantly in recent years.
He urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and follow official advisories during the expected weather spell.
