Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif held a meeting with Kaan Terzioglu to discuss investment opportunities and the promotion of Pakistan’s digital economy, according to state broadcaster Pakistan Television Corporation.

During the meeting, the prime minister highlighted the government’s focus on encouraging digital investment and expanding technological infrastructure across Pakistan. He pointed to the successful auction of the 5G spectrum held last month, where 480 megahertz of spectrum was sold for $507 million, as a key milestone in advancing the country’s digital capabilities.

The auction saw participation from major telecom operators, including Zong, Jazz, and Ufone. The companies competed for the 2,600MHz band, a crucial frequency range for 5G services, with Zong acquiring 110MHz, Ufone 180MHz, and Jazz securing 190MHz.
Shehbaz Sharif also outlined broader initiatives aimed at digitising the economy, including measures to enhance transparency and increase youth participation in the information technology sector. These efforts are part of a wider strategy to modernise economic systems and boost innovation.
Kaan Terzioglu welcomed the investment opportunities in Pakistan and praised the government’s push towards establishing a cashless economy. He expressed VEON Group’s interest in expanding its investment footprint in the country.

In addition to the spectrum auction, the government is working on expanding satellite-based internet services, connecting Pakistan to international cable systems, and strengthening fibre optic networks to position the country as a regional internet transit hub.
