A man lost his life and five others, including two policemen and a SHO, were critically injured when unidentified assailants attacked a police station in Jhal Magsi.
The attackers targeted Kotra Police Station in Jhal Magsi. Police sources said that heavy exchange of firing which started at 6:00 am was still underway.
SHO Mir Hassan Sipra, Mohammad Iqbal Lashari and Nisar Ahmad Lashari were also among the injured persons. A wave of panic gripped the area after the incident. Police teams rushed to the site and started a search operation to apprehend the culprits.
Earlier in January 2026, a tribal elder and chairman of the Panjk Union Council in Jhal Magsi district was killed in an exchange of fire between two clans of the Magsi tribe while his two children were injured.
Police said the exchange of fire occurred in the Panjk area when members of two rival groups came face to face. As a result, Panjk Union Council Chairman Mir Asif Sohrab Magsi was killed on the spot, while his two children traveling with him received injuries.
Separately, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion occurred in Shakardara village of Matta, Upper Swat on Monday however no loss of life or property has been reported.
According to local police, unidentified miscreants carried out the IED blast in Shakardara area of Matta during the morning hours. Despite the nature of the explosion, no casualties were reported.
Police stated that security forces reached at the scene immediately after receiving information about the blast. The area was cordoned off and a search operation was launched.
Police confirmed that investigations were underway to determine the nature of the explosion and identify those responsible. Security agencies collected evidence and expanded the scope of the investigation to ensure the swift arrest of the perpetrators.
Police urged the public to report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities promptly to prevent any such incident in future.
It is worth noting that on November 12, a similar bomb attack targeted the vehicle of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Mumtaz Ali Khan. He remained unharmed, but his vehicle was completely destroyed.
Sources suggest that the current incident might be linked to the previous attack. However, officials stated that the doubt would only be confirmed after the investigation.
