Washington, March 30, 2026: U.S. President Donald Trump said negotiations with Iran are progressing positively, but warned that Tehran’s critical energy facilities could be targeted if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened. Trump emphasized that diplomatic solutions remain the priority, yet military action remains an option if Iranian obstruction continues.
Trump posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, stating that the U.S. is engaging in serious negotiations under a new, more reasonable framework with Iran. He added that significant progress has been made and a potential agreement could be reached soon.

The president described the talks as conducted under prudent leadership, aiming for a diplomatic resolution. He expressed hope that both parties would reach a timely and peaceful outcome, avoiding escalation.

However, Trump issued a stern warning, stating that if a deal fails and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed, the United States could target Iran’s key energy infrastructure. This includes power plants, oil wells, Kharg Island, and other critical facilities, though none have been attacked so far. Military action may be considered if U.S. personnel suffer casualties, he added.

Iran reacted strongly to Trump’s statements. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baqai condemned attacks on nuclear facilities as criminal and criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency for failing to denounce the threats. He also clarified that Iran has not conducted direct talks with the U.S., only exchanging messages through intermediaries.
