
ISLAMABAD — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional stability and de-escalation in the Middle East during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zedong on Thursday.

The discussions came after Pakistan, alongside Turkiye and Egypt, played a key role in securing a five-day pause of US plans to strike Iranian energy and power infrastructure earlier this week. Officials described the effort as going beyond routine crisis management.

A press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant Syed Tariq Fatemi, and the foreign secretary were present at the meeting.
PM Shehbaz appreciated China’s “steadfast economic support” and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing CPEC 2.0, focusing on agriculture, industrial cooperation, and priority infrastructure projects. He also congratulated the Chinese leadership on the successful conclusion of the “Two Sessions” in Beijing and thanked President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for their Pakistan Day greetings.
Ambassador Jiang commended Pakistan’s economic resilience and reform efforts, reaffirming China’s continued support in trade and investment. Both sides expressed satisfaction at ongoing exchanges and looked forward to high-level engagements marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

PM Shehbaz emphasised continued close coordination on issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed the enduring Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. He also highlighted Pakistan’s readiness to host meaningful and conclusive talks between the US and Iran, formally proposing Islamabad as a potential venue for negotiations.
