PM Shehbaz reaffirms desire to boost ties with Indonesia

Published on: March 24, 2026 1:10 AM

Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, on telephone.

During their warm and cordial conversation, the Prime Minister conveyed Eid ul Fitr felicitations to the Indonesian President and the brotherly people of Indonesia. The feelings were warmly reciprocated by the Indonesian President. Both leaders prayed for peace and harmony for each others’ peoples, as well as for the Ummah.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen its historic and fraternal ties with Indonesia and expressed his firm resolve to expand bilateral cooperation with Indonesia, across all spheres of mutual interest.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the latest regional developments, particularly the ongoing hostilities in Iran and the Gulf region.

Both leaders called for an immediate end to hostilities and resolution of all differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

Shehbaz hoists national flag to mark Pakistan Day

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday hoisted the national flag to mark the Pakistan Day during a simple but a dignified ceremony held here.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar was also present at the ceremony along with other officials.

This year, the government observed the Pakistan Day under austerity and energy-saving measures, canceling the traditional military parade and all major ceremonies scheduled for the 23 March 2026.

The government had directed all public departments to keep celebrations limited, while the customary national civil awards investiture ceremony was also postponed.

The officials said the awards ceremony will now be held on 28 April 2026.

The prime minister also instructed Pakistani embassies abroad to observe the Pakistan Day with simplicity and avoid large-scale events.
