
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Ilham Aliyev on Friday called for immediate de-escalation in the Gulf region amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders held a telephone conversation on the occasion of Eidul Fitr, during which they exchanged greetings and discussed the evolving regional situation.

The premier strongly condemned attacks against Azerbaijan and expressed Pakistan’s full solidarity with its leadership and people. Both leaders emphasised the urgent need to reduce tensions and resolve the crisis through dialogue and diplomacy.

The conflict has intensified in recent weeks, with Iran reportedly targeting US bases and assets in multiple countries, including Azerbaijan, while Israel has expanded strikes to other parts of the region, including Lebanon. The developments have raised concerns about a wider regional escalation.
During the call, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s consistent position on promoting peace and stability, urging all parties to exercise restraint. President Aliyev reciprocated Eid greetings and appreciated Pakistan’s support during the challenging period.
The two leaders also expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in various sectors.
