EV bus route inaugurated to improve public transport

Published on: March 18, 2026 11:03 AM

The inauguration ceremony of the new EV bus route was held under the Sindh Transport Department. Senior Minister Sindh Sharjeel Inam Memon, Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman Murad, MNA Dr. Shahida Rehmani, and other notable personalities attended the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Senior Minister Sindh and Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon, said that during the blessed month of Ramadan, the Pakistan Peoples Party is fulfilling the promises made to the people. He added that these initiatives reflect the shared vision of Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Faryal Talpur, and the Sindh government team. He stated that wherever the PPP government has served, progress is clearly visible.

He further said that the country is currently engaged in a fight against terrorism and that the armed forces are bravely confronting the enemy, ensuring that no one dares cast a malicious eye on Pakistan. He paid tribute to Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, saying their leadership strengthened the country’s defense.

Sharjeel Inam Memon added that work on major projects in Karachi is progressing rapidly, with special focus on the city’s development, solid waste management, water supply, and infrastructure improvement in collaboration with the Mayor of Karachi. He claimed that the Sindh government is providing high-quality, free healthcare facilities that are not available in other parts of the country.

Addressing the ceremony, he said that the Sindh government has introduced EV bus services and a Pink Bus Service for women for the first time in Pakistan, along with Pink Scooties to promote women’s empowerment. He noted that residents of Gulshan-e-Maymar will significantly benefit from the new EV bus service. He also said that Pink buses have been launched in the area for the first time, and free Pink bikes will be provided to women.

He added that acquiring EV buses was not easy, as they were initially held at the port, and unlike others who were charged only one percent tax, the Sindh government had to pay 18 percent tax.

Sharjeel Inam Memon said that true public service is driven by commitment, and those elected by the people are the ones who genuinely serve them. Comparing provincial and federal roads, he stated that the provincial government has constructed better-quality roads, while federal roads remain in poor condition. He also announced that Shahrah Bhutto will be opened for traffic on April 30, with work continuing day and night for Karachi’s development.

Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that when the Pakistan Peoples Party makes a promise, it fulfills it, and every worker carries out their responsibility under the party leadership’s vision. He added that the PPP will continue to work in line with the mandate given by the people.

MNA Dr. Shahida Rehmani congratulated the residents of Gulshan-e-Maymar, saying that a long-standing promise has now been fulfilled. She noted that resolving transport issues had been a major demand of the area’s residents and has now become a reality. She also mentioned that a 20-bed hospital has been constructed in the area and will be inaugurated after Eid.
