The Balochistan government has started implementing a new cost-saving policy by introducing a three-day weekend for government offices across the province. Authorities say the step aims to reduce electricity consumption and operational expenses while improving administrative efficiency. Under the new arrangement, public offices will remain closed for three consecutive days every week. Officials believe this measure will help manage limited energy resources more effectively.
According to an official notification issued by the provincial government, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday have been declared weekly holidays for all government departments. As a result, offices will now remain operational only from Monday to Thursday. The revised schedule has already come into effect, and many government offices remained closed on Friday under the new policy. Authorities said the decision forms part of broader financial and energy conservation efforts.

Provincial officials explained that reducing office working days can significantly cut electricity consumption in government buildings. Power usage related to lighting, air conditioning, and office equipment will decrease during the extended weekend. Therefore, the administration expects the move to provide measurable savings in operational costs over time. Energy conservation remains a growing priority as provinces attempt to manage rising utility expenses.
Meanwhile, the provincial leadership believes the new policy will not affect the efficiency of government operations. Instead, authorities expect departments to improve productivity during the four official working days. Officials say clearer scheduling and better planning will help maintain service delivery while reducing unnecessary operational spending. Consequently, government departments have been advised to adjust their work routines accordingly.

The Chief Minister of Balochistan also stated that the government is working on broader administrative reforms to improve governance across the province. Plans to create new districts are under consideration to strengthen local administration and improve service delivery. Authorities believe such structural changes will bring government institutions closer to citizens. Together with the new office schedule, these reforms aim to build a more efficient and sustainable administrative system.
