ECC approves Rs3b gas schemes for villages

Published on: March 6, 2026 10:02 PM

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Friday approved Rs3 billion for gas supply schemes in villages near production fields. The committee also sanctioned funding for education, disaster relief, and power sector reforms. Officials said the measures aim to boost energy access, improve services, and ensure fiscal accountability.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb chaired the ECC meeting at the Finance Division in Islamabad. The Rs3b gas schemes will be implemented through Sui Southern Gas Company Limited and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited. Villages within five kilometres of production fields will benefit first.

The ECC further approved Rs200 million for the Ministry of Federal Education to pay outstanding dues to teachers of Basic Education Community Schools. The payments follow court directives covering salary differentials from August 2017 to June 2021. Officials said the move supports education sector stability.
