Punjab launches rehmat card scheme to support widows and orphans

Published on: March 5, 2026 1:41 PM

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the Rehmat Card Scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to widows and orphans across the province. The initiative seeks to support vulnerable families and ensure they receive government help during difficult economic circumstances. Officials say the programme reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening social welfare and protecting those who need support the most.

During a meeting to review the proposal, the chief minister emphasised that widows and orphans should no longer feel helpless in society. She stated that it is the government’s responsibility to stand with underprivileged citizens and provide them with meaningful financial relief and support. Furthermore, she highlighted that welfare programmes play an essential role in improving living conditions for vulnerable segments of the population.

Under the Rehmat Card Scheme, the Punjab government will provide financial assistance of Rs100,000 to each eligible widow. In addition, every registered orphan will receive Rs25,000 as part of the initiative designed to reduce financial hardship and provide immediate relief to families facing economic challenges. Authorities believe the support will help beneficiaries manage essential household expenses and improve their overall well-being.

Meanwhile, officials have instructed eligible individuals to register through the Zakat and Ushr Department offices located across Punjab. Applicants can visit their nearest office to complete the registration process and submit the required documents for verification before receiving financial assistance under the scheme.

The government expects the programme to benefit thousands of widows and orphans throughout the province while strengthening the social protection system. Authorities also believe such welfare initiatives will encourage greater community stability by ensuring that the most vulnerable citizens receive timely support and financial assistance.

Officials added that the Rehmat Card Scheme represents another step toward expanding welfare programmes in Punjab. By prioritising social protection and inclusive policies, the government aims to reduce financial inequality and provide sustainable relief to disadvantaged families across the province.
