Sindh home minister assures foolproof security for Chinese nationals in Pakistan

Published on: February 27, 2026 1:31 AM

Sindh Home Minister Zia -ul-Hassan Lanjar held an important meeting with the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Karachi, Yang Yundong, during which bilateral relations, mutual cooperation, and particularly security-related matters were discussed in detail.

During the meeting, a comprehensive review was conducted of the security arrangements for Chinese nationals residing in Sindh, including experts, engineers, and individuals associated with various development projects. The Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar clearly stated that the protection of Chinese citizens remains a top priority of the Government of Sindh and that no negligence in this regard will be tolerated.

He noted that effective and coordinated security measures for Chinese engineers and workers associated with CPEC and non-CPEC projects are being further strengthened. It was also agreed to ensure that the security of Chinese installations, residential facilities, and work sites is aligned with modern security requirements. The Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar emphasized the need to further enhance coordination and intelligence-sharing mechanisms between law enforcement agencies and the Chinese Consulate to ensure timely prevention of any potential threats.

He reiterated that the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China is founded on mutual trust, respect, and longstanding cooperation, and that the Government of Sindh is taking all possible steps to further strengthen this historic relationship. A strict zero-tolerance policy is being implemented for the protection of Chinese nationals, with all relevant institutions working in close coordination under a comprehensive strategy. Consul General Yang Yundong appreciated the measures taken by the Government of Sindh to ensure the security of Chinese nationals and projects. He stated that the Government of Sindh is providing full support and cooperation, for which they are grateful, and expressed a desire to further strengthen mutual trust and collaboration.

The meeting was also attended by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Inspector General of Sindh Police, DIG Special Protection Unit (SPU), DIG East, and the Coordinator to the Home Minister. Other matters of mutual interest were also discussed.

Separately, Lanjar on Thursday ordered that security be further tightened across the province.

Chairing a high-level meeting in Sindh Assembly, he said that tough decisions needed to be taken in view of the incidents of terrorism that rocked the country in the past. “We will have to make foolproof security arrangements at airports besides conducting security audit of all key and sensitive installations,” he said, and added that there was a great rush of people at airports.

Therefore, there was a need to be more vigilant. “Only one or two persons will be allowed to either pick or drop passengers at the airport.”

The minister also directed that implementation on each and every clause of the National Action Plan (NAP) be ensured.

Lanjar said that Karachi was the financial capital of Pakistan. “Police will have to strengthen its ties with other law-enforcement agencies,” he asserted.

He directed that comprehensive SOPs be devised to ensure a quick response at a site of any terror attack.

He also stressed the need for a greater coordination with other provinces.

The minister ordered that the availability of Talash App device be ensured in all jails of the province. “The device should be used during snap checking, picketing and combing operations.”

He said there was a need to deploy lady searchers at the entry and exit points of the province.

He ordered conducting the forensic of social media posts promoting extremism, sectarianism and militancy.

Lanjar also ordered an indiscriminate crackdown on the display of weapons in the province.

He also stressed the need for closely monitoring railway stations, bus terminals and truck stands.

Home secretary, IGP Sindh and other participants gave a detailed briefing to the minister.
