
Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated Punjab’s new e-taxi scheme and distributed vehicle keys to successful applicants. The initiative aims to promote dignified employment, especially for women. The program forms part of the provincial government’s broader push for green transport and economic empowerment.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said the e-taxi scheme would play a key role in helping women secure stable income. She emphasized that women in Punjab should not feel intimidated and must confidently pursue economic opportunities. She described the initiative as a respectable employment project designed to ensure financial independence.

Maryam Nawaz stated that the scheme could generate a monthly income between Rs150,000 and Rs200,000 for drivers. She added that the government has allocated Rs4 billion in subsidies for the project. Under the policy, the Punjab government will pay 60 percent of the down payment for women drivers and 50 percent for men.
In the first phase, 1,100 electric vehicles will be distributed under the scheme. The chief minister said the initiative aligns with Punjab’s clean energy and sustainable transport goals. She noted that green and electric buses have already transformed the province’s transport system.

She further announced that a trackless train project will soon be launched in Punjab. According to her, these steps reflect the government’s commitment to modern, environmentally friendly infrastructure. Officials say the e-taxi scheme is expected to boost employment while reducing urban pollution.
