The city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 154, placing it in the “unhealthy” category and posing health risks to the general public, particularly children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. Meanwhile, the concentration of PM2.5 – fine particulate matter that can penetrate deep into the lungs – was measured at 11.9 times higher than the annual guideline value set by the World Health Organization (WHO), highlighting serious concerns over prolonged exposure and its potential impact on public health. Dry weather continued to prevail in the city on Wednesday, and the weather department forecast similar conditions over the next 24 hours. According to meteorological officials, continental air was dominating most parts of the country. Mainly dry weather is expected across the country, while cold conditions are likely to persist in hilly areas during the morning and night hours. Daytime temperatures are expected to remain above normal. However, partly cloudy weather with light rain may occur in Gilgit-Baltistan during the evening or night. On Wednesday, the lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Leh, where the mercury dropped to -08°C, while in Lahore the minimum temperature was recorded at 19°C.
