Pakistan warn England of spin test

Published on: February 23, 2026 9:00 PM

Pakistan have warned England to expect a stern trial by spin in their Super Eights clash. The warning follows England’s struggle against Sri Lanka’s slow bowlers. The high-stakes match could decide semi-final qualification in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Speaking in Pallekele, opener Sahibzada Farhan said England’s batting faltered against spin on Sunday. England were restricted to 146-9 against Sri Lanka’s slow attack. Farhan said Pakistan’s spin depth would pose an even tougher challenge. He added that the pitch in Kandy appears helpful for spinners.

Pakistan urgently need a win after their opener against New Zealand was washed out. A defeat could push England into the semi-finals with a game remaining. Pakistan would then rely on other results to advance. The Men in Green must also defeat Sri Lanka in their final match.

Pakistan’s spinners have dominated the tournament so far. They have claimed 26 wickets in four matches. In contrast, seamers have managed only seven dismissals. Pakistan may include spinner Abrar Ahmed in place of Faheem Ashraf.

Farhan, who leads the scoring charts with 220 runs, remains confident. He recently scored an unbeaten century against Namibia. He also welcomed the challenge of facing Jofra Archer. Meanwhile, England could retain their unchanged lineup for the fifth straight game.
