The second day of the 10th three-day Faiz Festival at Alhamra unfolded with remarkable energy, intellectual depth and artistic brilliance, further reinforcing Lahore’s stature as a vibrant center of literary and cultural dialogue.
The day’s activities commenced on a refreshing and spirited note with a captivating performance titled “Saqiya! Raqs Koi Raqs Saba Ki Soorat” presented by students of a private school. Their graceful expression and poetic interpretation set an inspiring tone for the day, filling the halls of Alhamra with youthful enthusiasm and creative vibrance. A thought-provoking session on “The Role of Media in the Political Landscape” featured Shahzad Ghias, Faisal Warraich, Moneeza Jahangir and Dr. Taimoor Rahman, who engaged in a compelling exchange of views on the media’s evolving influence in shaping political narratives. The discussion resonated strongly with the audience, reflecting the festival’s commitment to meaningful contemporary discourse. In a heartfelt tribute to Sufi Ghulam Tabassum, the session “Woh Huey Mujh Se Hum kalam” brought together Moeen Nizami, Kishwar Naheed, Salima Hashmi, and Akhtar Waqar Azeem. The speakers fondly revisited the literary legacy and spiritual depth of the revered poet, creating an atmosphere of reflection and reverence.
Another powerful dialogue unfolded in “Dharti Ki Malkaein,” where Tasneem Akhtar Jameel, Rakshanda Naz, Khushnood Deedar, Dr Nishat Riaz and Semmi Raheel shared insightful perspectives. The rich and dynamic conversation deeply engaged the audience, who listened with admiration and appreciation.
A significant session titled “Halqa-e-Zanjeer Mein Zaban” featured Khawaja Saad Rafique, Senator Ali Zafar, Fauzia Shaheen, and Syed Talat Hussain in a comprehensive and thought-provoking discussion. Simultaneously, to assess the state of Urdu, Syed Shimon Hashmi, Yousaf Ibrahim and Sumera Khalil presented their analyses, shedding light on linguistic evolution and contemporary challenges. In another engaging exchange, the session “Woh Baat Un Ko Bohat Nagawar Guzri Hai” featured Muhammad Hanif in dialogue with Umer Khan, presenting a well-argued, intellectually stimulating conversation that captivated attendees.
A major highlight of the day was the discussions on modern journalism, where Talat Hussain, Wajahat Ullah Khan, Asad Baig, and Moneeza Jahangir offered their perspectives on the evolving media landscape in the digital age. The session drew a large audience that listened attentively, reflecting keen public interest in responsible and progressive journalism. The session “Suno Gap Shap” turned into one of the most electrifying highlights of the day, as Suhail Ahmed and Vasay Chaudhry captivated a packed auditorium with their wit, satire, and unmatched stage presence. At the same time, Tabish Hashmi masterfully steered the conversation with sharp humor and finesse. The full-house audience responded with roaring laughter and continuous applause, making it an unforgettable and thoroughly engaging experience.
The Punjabi Mushaira titled “Amrit De Jaam Wangon” drew poetry lovers in large numbers, celebrating the lyrical richness of regional expression. Adding further color to the day were a mesmerizing dance performance by Nighat Chaudhry, the rhythmic beats of the dhol, open-mic sessions, and multiple book launches, all of which contributed to the festival’s vibrant and inclusive spirit.
As the festival moves toward its conclusion, the final day of the 10th Faiz Festival will be held on Sunday, 15 February, promising yet another day of profound dialogue, artistic excellence and celebration of Faiz’s timeless legacy.
