PMD warns of widespread cold, dry weather

Published on: February 14, 2026 5:00 PM

A continued spell of cold and dry weather is expected to affect most parts of Pakistan on Saturday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said. Northern and central regions will see low temperatures, while plains are likely to remain dry. Partly cloudy skies are forecast over hilly areas, with very cold conditions during mornings and nights.

In Islamabad and surrounding areas, temperatures will drop to around 6°C in the morning before rising to 26°C in the afternoon, according to PMD. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, will also experience cold and dry weather, with upper districts facing very cold mornings and nights. Most of Punjab will remain dry, though nighttime and early morning cold is expected to intensify, especially in cities such as Lahore and Faisalabad.

The hill resort of Murree and surrounding Galiyat areas will remain cold and dry throughout the day, while gusty winds may affect central and southern Punjab during daylight hours. Sindh, including Karachi, is expected to continue with dry weather and warmer daytime temperatures reaching around 31°C. Balochistan will experience dry and partly cloudy conditions, while northern areas such as Quetta will remain cold in mornings and nights.

Northern regions of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir will continue under severe winter conditions, with very cold and partly cloudy weather predicted. Cities including Gilgit and Skardu are likely to experience freezing mornings, with temperatures near 1°C and 0°C respectively. Daytime temperatures in these northern areas will remain low, prolonging the winter chill.

The PMD advises the public to take necessary precautions against the cold, particularly in northern and hilly regions. Travelers should remain alert to gusty winds in central and southern Punjab, and citizens are reminded that the ongoing winter pattern may persist over the coming days.
