Only 15% vision left': lawyer's report raises alarm over Imran Khan's jail conditions

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has voiced serious concerns over the health of its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, citing a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan that claims significant loss of vision in his right eye.

The report, submitted by PTI lawyer Salman Safdar after meeting the former premier in jail on court directives, stated that Mr Khan had lost 85 per cent of eyesight in his right eye. Party leaders described the situation as “medical neglect” and demanded immediate access to independent medical care.

The report itself mentions rapid vision loss, visible distress, lack of full medical transparency, and restricted independent access. These aren’t social media claims. They are documented concerns.

Speaking at a press conference, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi alleged that repeated complaints about Mr Khan’s deteriorating vision were ignored by prison authorities. PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja called the delay in hospital referral unprecedented and demanded that Mr Khan be examined by his personal physician.

PTI leaders also warned of rising frustration among supporters, urging authorities to ensure proper treatment and allow meetings with family members and legal counsel. Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram called for legal action against prison officials, including former administrators of Adiala Jail, over alleged negligence.

Mr Khan’s son, Kasim Khan, in a post on X, described the situation as a direct consequence of prolonged solitary confinement and denial of adequate medical tests. He also claimed that family members were being denied visas to visit him.

We have been informed that my father, Imran Khan, has lost most of the vision in his right eye, with reports indicating only 15% eyesight remains. This is the direct consequence of 922 days of solitary confinement, medical neglect (denied blood tests) and the deliberate denial of…

Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar rejected the allegations, stating that the medical report detailed the former premier’s daily routine and diet plan, showing he was receiving facilities beyond those available to ordinary inmates. He said the narrative of mistreatment had “fallen flat” in light of the report.

The narrative which was being propagated to International Media by Aleema Khan and other members of IK’s family regarding mistreatment and shabby conditions in prison has fallen flat on its face. The report regarding daily routine and diet plan has cleared all ambiguity. All…
