A high-level meeting regarding ongoing and proposed development schemes in Karachi was held under the chairmanship of Sindh Minister for Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Additional Chief Secretary Waseem Shamshad, Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, Chairman CMIT Bilal Ahmed Memon, DG Mega Projects Ghani Sheikh, and other relevant officials.
The meeting conducted a detailed review of projects related to infrastructure improvement, traffic management, street lighting, and civic facilities across the city. Instructions were issued to accelerate the pace of implementation to ensure timely completion.
During the briefing, it was informed that construction and rehabilitation work on 173 major and important roads across the city will be initiated in phases. These include roads connecting key commercial centers with residential areas. The Minister directed that the use of high-quality materials and adherence to project timelines must be ensured so that durable facilities can be provided to citizens. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah stated that work on a special project for the installation and repair of streetlights is being launched immediately. He added that solar streetlights will be installed on various roads to promote alternative energy sources.
According to him, an improved lighting system will not only facilitate citizens but also help prevent crime. The meeting also approved the installation of new traffic signals and modern traffic signboards to improve traffic flow. The Minister instructed relevant authorities to identify busy intersections and accident-prone areas and take immediate measures.
Furthermore, alternative roads will be constructed and certain routes will be widened to reduce traffic congestion. Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that, on the directives of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Karachi’s development schemes will be completed on a priority basis, while the Chief Minister of Sindh is personally overseeing the projects. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to utilizing all available resources to transform Karachi into a modern and well-organized city, adding that no negligence will be tolerated. At the conclusion of the meeting, concerned officials were directed to submit progress reports regularly.
