BRUSSELS — Sweden plans to provide a new aid package to Ukraine under NATO’s Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) programme. The announcement will be made during a NATO defence ministers meeting attended by Ukrainian Defence Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. The move aims to strengthen Ukraine’s air-defence and overall military capabilities.
Swedish Defence Minister Pål Jonson said the package will mark Sweden’s third financial contribution to PURL, which helps NATO allies fund US-made weapons for Ukraine. He did not specify the amount but stressed the programme is vital for supplying air-defence interceptor missiles that Europe does not produce.

The minister highlighted that alongside the main NATO ministerial meeting, there will be sessions of the NATO-Ukraine Council and the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, also known as the Ramstein format. These meetings aim to coordinate defence aid and strategic support for Ukraine.
Several NATO countries have already contributed under PURL, including the UK, which announced £150 million. Ukraine’s ambassador to NATO, Alona Hetmanchuk, said six countries provide the most support, with more expected to join the programme in the coming months.

Jonson emphasised that PURL enables European nations to rapidly fund and supply US military equipment to Ukraine, ensuring timely reinforcement of the country’s defensive capabilities amid ongoing conflict. He called the programme “essential for Ukraine’s security and NATO’s collective support.”
