Sharing the announcement on social media, Malala said that giving back to girls who had struggled for their right to education was deeply personal for her. She recalled that when she graduated from Oxford, she felt a strong responsibility to support young women in Pakistan who, like her, had faced barriers to schooling but still dreamed of continuing their education.

According to Malala, the scholarship is aimed at empowering talented Pakistani women who aspire to study at Oxford and use their education to create positive change in their communities and the country at large. She encouraged eligible candidates to apply through the Oxford Pakistan Programme website.

In a video message, Malala reflected on her own educational journey, saying she felt immense gratitude for the opportunity to complete her degree at Oxford. She recalled being denied schooling at the age of 11 after schools were banned in her area, adding that she never wanted her story to be unique or the only one.

Malala emphasised that Pakistani girls possess immense potential to build successful careers through education and to contribute meaningfully to society. She reiterated her long-held belief that education is the most powerful tool for empowering women and strengthening nations.

“I want every girl in Pakistan to be able to pursue her dream, complete her education, choose her own future and help the country progress,” she said.

The scholarship provides full financial support, covering the costs associated with higher education at the University of Oxford. Malala expressed hope that a large number of young women would apply and said she looked forward to welcoming future scholars to Oxford in the coming years.
