Snow clearance operation underway in Galiyat

Published on: February 11, 2026 2:38 AM

Following heavy snowfall measuring up to one foot across Galiyat late last night, snow clearance operations were initiated on the directions of the Provincial Government to facilitate tourists and the local community.

Field staff and machinery of the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) were mobilized early this morning and are actively engaged in clearing town roads and key access routes to ensure smooth movement and restore connectivity. Salt is also being spread on roads to prevent slippery conditions and reduce the risk posed by fog and ice.

The GDA Control Room remains fully operational, with staff available round the clock to provide assistance to tourists and local residents in case of any inconvenience.

The district administration is closely supervising ongoing efforts to maintain road accessibility, ensure public safety, and facilitate citizens during intermittent snowfall.

Additional Assistant Commissioner Galiyat, Muhammad Tariq, is present in the area and personally monitoring all snow clearance and safety-related activities.

Citizens and tourists planning to travel towards Galiyat have been advised to stay updated on weather conditions, avoid unnecessary travel during rain and snowfall, and strictly observe precautionary measures.

In case of any emergency, the public may contact the following numbers 24/7, District Control Room Abbottabad: 0992-9310553, Galiyat Development Authority Control Room, Nathia Gali: 0992-355539, Rescue Emergency Services: 1122.

Rain lashes Islamabad, several other cities

Rain lashed Islamabad and several other cities, bringing a drop in temperatures and making the weather pleasant in the federal capital.

Abbottabad, Haripur and adjoining areas received rainfall accompanied by strong winds, further intensifying the cold. In Kundian and surrounding areas, intermittent rain continued, causing water to accumulate in low-lying localities.

Meanwhile, snowfall was reported in Nathia Gali, Thandiani and other upper regions, while cold winds persisted across these areas.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the spell of rain and snowfall is likely to continue for the next 24 hours.
