BEIRUT: Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon killed four people on Monday, including a member of Lebanon’s security forces and his three-year-old child, amid continued cross-border tensions despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024.

Lebanon’s health ministry said an Israeli strike hit the village of Yanuh, killing three people. According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), those killed included a Lebanese security forces member and his young child, who were passing through the area at the time of the strike.
The Israeli military said the attack targeted Ahmad Ali Salameh, whom it identified as Hezbollah’s head of artillery, alleging he was involved in efforts to restore the group’s military capabilities. The army said the incident was under review after reports that civilians not involved in hostilities were killed.

Later on Monday, Lebanon’s health ministry reported that Israeli gunfire killed one person in the border village of Aita al-Shaab. The Israeli military said the person killed was a Hezbollah member who was allegedly gathering intelligence on Israeli troops and working to rebuild Hezbollah’s infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
Separately, the Hamas-allied Jamaa Islamiya group accused Israel of seizing one of its officials, Atwi Atwi, from his home in the Hasbaya district of southern Lebanon. The group said Israeli forces took him to an unknown location following what it described as an infiltration by Israeli troops.
The Israeli military confirmed apprehending what it called a “senior terrorist” affiliated with Jamaa Islamiya, saying he was transferred to Israel for further questioning. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the incident as a violation of Lebanese sovereignty, the ceasefire agreement, and international law.

Hezbollah and Lebanese officials have repeatedly accused Israel of abducting Lebanese citizens since the start of hostilities and of maintaining troops at several positions along the border. Israel, meanwhile, says its actions are based on intelligence and aimed at preventing renewed attacks on its territory.
