China stands with Pakistan after Islamabad mosque tragedy

Published on: February 8, 2026 12:29 PM

China has strongly condemned the deadly attack on a mosque in Islamabad, expressing deep shock and grief over the loss of innocent lives in one of the capital’s worst terror incidents in years. In an official statement, the Chinese foreign ministry said the attack had caused heavy casualties and left the nation mourning alongside the Pakistani people during this painful moment. Moreover, Beijing conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to the injured victims. The statement underlined China’s clear opposition to terrorism in all its forms and circumstances.

The attack occurred on Friday when an armed assailant opened fire at the mosque’s entrance before detonating a suicide bomb among worshippers gathered for prayers. As a result, at least 31 people were killed, making it the deadliest assault of its kind in Islamabad in more than a decade. Security officials said the attacker aimed to cause maximum damage by striking during a busy prayer time. Consequently, the incident has reignited serious concerns about urban security and militant threats.

In response, China reaffirmed its firm support for Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard national security and ensure public safety across the country. The foreign ministry emphasized that stability in Pakistan remains crucial for regional peace and long-term cooperation between the two nations. Furthermore, Beijing pledged continued backing for Islamabad’s counterterrorism actions and security measures. This stance reflects the close strategic partnership and shared security interests between China and Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi publicly accused India of financing and directing terrorist networks linked to the attack. Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he claimed that the operation was planned, trained, and executed by Daesh operatives based in Afghanistan. He further alleged that foreign funding reached these groups directly in dollars, enabling the deadly assault. According to Naqvi, the attackers acted on precise targets and instructions provided from abroad.

However, the accusations have added a new layer of tension to an already volatile regional environment marked by security challenges and diplomatic strains. Pakistani authorities have vowed to pursue all those responsible and strengthen intelligence coordination to prevent similar attacks. At the same time, officials stressed the need for international cooperation to curb cross-border terrorism networks. As investigations continue, the tragedy has once again highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing struggle against extremism and the urgent need for lasting stability.
