Chak No189-RB Rasoolpur Gaidari in Faisalabad has been declared the country’s first Digital Model Village as part of Prime Minister of Pakistan and State Bank of Pakistan’s Cashless Economy Initiative for shifting 50 percent of transactions to digital modes. State Bank of Pakistan Chief Manager Madam Fauzia Aslam formally inaugurated the “Digitally Enabled Model Village” and said that all banks had set up stalls in the village to open accounts and educate residents about making payments through digital channels. She termed it a positive indicator of grassroots-level acceptance of cashless system and said that even local milk vendors and small merchants in the village had adopted digital payment methods. She said that Rasoolpur had been selected this year as a pilot digital model village while plans were underway to introduce cashless transaction systems in more villages across the country in the coming year. She praised the village’s progress towards digital economy and said that the initiative would provide easy access to finance, great convenience and safe movement of the capital. Fauzia Aslam said that a complete digital ecosystem had been provided in the village including point-of-sale machines, ATM facilities and mobile payment services.
