Govt appeals to NA opposition leader to call off protest

Published on: February 8, 2026 4:08 AM

Federal Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Spokesperson for Sindh Raja Khaliquzaman Ansari on Saturday appealed to the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP) Chief and Opposition Leader in National Assembly Mehmood Khan Achakzai to call off protest scheduled for February 8 in solidarity with victims of Islamabad suicidal bomb blast to show their patriotism.

He pointed out, ‘Shops, schools and businesses remain already closed on Sunday,’ and what do they want to prove by calling protest on Sunday”?

Addressing a press conference along with Chief Whip Punjab Assembly MPA Rana Muhammad Arshad at Karachi Press Club (KPC), he said that the Chief Minister of Punjab Maryum Nawaz has cancelled basant festival in the wake of terrorist incident in Islamabad.

Ansari, while condemning the incident, said that the CNIC of suicide bomber has been found from the site of blast, who went to Afghanistan for terrorist training before the incident. He also questioned the KPK Chief Minister of any further proof of terrorism.

The Spokesperson said that the country is facing terrorism and economic challenges. He said that India is using her proxies and carrying out terrorist incidents in Pakistan.

Replying to a question, he said that PML-N did not want to encroach on the mandate in the Sindh province, if people are desirous of seeing Maryum Nawaz in Sindh, they must vote PML-N to serve in the province. To another question about handing over Karachi to Federation, he said that it is not a solution instead of that the federation is desirous of reforms. Replying yet another question on increasing incidents of terrorism in the country, he said the security forces are carrying out operations under the National Action Plan (NAP) to thwart these incidents.

To another question, he said that the federal government will fulfil its responsibilities in the city and Green Line and K-IV projects among others will be completed on time. Chief Whip Punjab Assembly MPA Rana Muhammad Arshad briefing about the performance of the Punjab Government said that the Punjab Government has enacted many laws including law pertaining to flying kites and carpeted big roads. He said that MPAs in Punjab has been issued funds to start work in their areas.

Arshad said that DPOs and DC are not transfered in Punjab as those were transfered by Farah Gogi’s but now they are transfered on merit. He said that prisoner number 804 leads a group of violent elements. He said that they were able to form government in KPK in the past but they did not do that. The Chief Whip Punjab Assembly MPA Rana Muhammad Arshad said that Pakistan People’s Party and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz have always huddled together to resolve issues.

Replying to a question, he said we want to hold local government elections in Punjab. To another question, he said that the Information Minister of Punjab has excused over a statement regarding manhole incident in Punjab.
