PESHAWAR: Fresh controversy has emerged in the May 9 case after forensic and verification reports linked video evidence to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, prompting the court to seek a complete report on February 14, according to official sources.

The Punjab Forensic Science Agency reportedly confirmed that the evidence submitted in the case is linked to CM Afridi, while NADRA’s verification also identified material associated with him. The court has directed that both the forensic and verification reports be presented in full at the next hearing.

Questions have surfaced over whether the KP Police themselves sent the evidence to Punjab or acted strictly on court orders. CM Afridi told reporters that the police did not send the material on their own. “The court handed a sealed envelope containing a USB drive to the investigating officer and ordered that it be sent to the forensic laboratory,” he said. He added that neither he nor his lawyer was informed about the USB’s contents and described its dispatch as an act of injustice.
Afridi confirmed that forensic experts verified that the individual appearing in the video was indeed him. “However, the real issue is whether Sohail Afridi has any connection with the May 9 incidents,” he stated, noting that no police investigation has yet been conducted against him.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Mian Saeed told The News that the police had already completed their investigation and submitted the challan to the court. After certain material was presented by the defence, the court ordered the USB to be sent to Punjab Forensic Science Agency and NADRA for verification.

Both reports have now been submitted and formally recorded in the case file. The CCPO added that any further action, including a formal investigation of CM Afridi, will proceed based on the court’s next instructions.
The court will ultimately determine whether the video and images have any connection to the May 9 incident in Peshawar.
