
The Punjab government announced public holidays on February 6 and 7 for the Basant festival. The decision applies across the province, according to an official notification. The move creates a long weekend for residents.
The notification was issued by the Services and General Administration Department on Tuesday. It confirmed Friday and Saturday as public holidays in Punjab. The order was shared for general public information.

Earlier, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the Basant break on social media. She said the holidays align with Kashmir Day on February 5. Therefore, people will enjoy an extended four-day weekend.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast clear and dry weather for Basant. It said conditions on February 6 and 7 will be ideal in Lahore. Slight cloud cover is expected on February 8.

Basant is a traditional festival celebrating spring and crop prosperity. The event returns after an 18-year ban due to safety concerns. However, kite flying is now allowed under strict regulations banning dangerous strings.
