
ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to accelerate cooperation in trade, investment, and regional connectivity, aiming to translate growing economic ties into concrete outcomes, officials said on Monday.

The understanding emerged during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Uzbekistan’s Minister Laziz Kudratov. Both sides emphasized strengthening practical economic cooperation and expanding mutually beneficial partnerships between businesses.

Officials noted that bilateral trade between the two countries grew by 10 percent last year. Uzbekistan’s imports from Pakistan increased by 12 percent, while its exports rose by 8 percent. Both countries have set an ambitious goal of boosting bilateral trade to $2 billion in the near future.
Progress was also reported in expanding the preferential trade framework, with the product list expected to increase from 34 to 92 items. Currently, 228 Pakistani companies are operating in Uzbekistan, including 80 new firms registered last year, highlighting growing business-to-business engagement.

The two sides discussed enhancing regional connectivity, including expanding direct flights. Plans were proposed to launch weekly services from Islamabad and Lahore, along with flights from Karachi. Alternative trade routes were also considered, including the Northern Corridor and a proposed “Green Corridor” linking Pakistan, China, and Central Asia, aimed at facilitating faster movement of goods.
In addition, Pakistan and Uzbekistan agreed to explore joint projects in mining, minerals, food, and agriculture, while pledging closer follow-up on ongoing initiatives. Both sides stressed the importance of stronger business-to-business linkages to ensure that bilateral trade growth translates into tangible economic benefits.

The meeting reflects a shared commitment to enhancing regional economic integration, boosting investment opportunities, and strengthening ties between Pakistan and Central Asia.
