The move was approved by the Council of Ministers in line with Article 21 bis (A) of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959, which governs the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and its amendments. Under the law, citizenship can be withdrawn if it was obtained unlawfully, including through fraud, false declarations, or submission of incorrect documents.

The decree clarifies that citizenship revocation is carried out following a Cabinet decision upon recommendation from the Minister of Interior. Dependents of the primary certificate holders are also subject to the withdrawal of nationality. Authorities said the measure underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the integrity of Kuwaiti nationality and ensuring compliance with legal frameworks.
In a separate announcement, Dr Bader Al‑Basiri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, assured students that obtaining visas for overseas study remains smooth. Speaking at an informational session under the ministry’s annual “Guide Me” campaign, Dr Al‑Basiri noted that visa cancellations are limited and occur only under circumstances determined by host countries.
He added that the ministry maintains active cooperation with embassies and is following up with students affected by cancellations to ensure they can pursue educational opportunities both in Kuwait and abroad. Dr Al‑Basiri emphasized the importance of involving families in students’ academic decision-making, encouraging informed choices based on a thorough understanding of study-abroad requirements.
