Envoy presents Pakistan’s perspective on global issues to US think tanks

Published on: January 31, 2026 1:21 AM

Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has said Pakistan possesses strong and long-term capacity for building profitable economic partnerships.

Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh said this at a meeting with members of prominent American think tanks in Washington. Representatives of leading US intellectual and policy circles attended the meeting.

During the interaction, detailed discussions were held on Pakistan-US bilateral relations, as well as the regional and global situation.

Rizwan Saeed Sheikh presented Pakistan’s perspective on key regional and international issues before the American intellectual community. He said that 2025 proved to be a year of key transformations in Pakistan-US relations.

The Ambassador emphasized that improved relations between Pakistan and the United States are neither optional nor temporary as the sustainability of bilateral ties is an important necessity for the future.

Highlighting Pakistan’s role in global affairs, he said Pakistan has consistently played a significant role in promoting regional and international peace and stability. He noted that the partnership between Pakistan and the United States has been productive not only in advancing mutual interests but also in contributing to global peace. He added that the commitment to enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as minerals, energy, and information technology has given a new dimension to bilateral relations.

The Ambassador further said over 65 percent of Pakistan’s population comprises youth, which holds significant potential to help meet human resource shortages in the United States and globally. He highlighted Pakistan’s competitive advantage in terms of lower costs and better quality, inviting American investors and the manufacturing sector to benefit from these opportunities.

During the meeting, Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh also held detailed discussions on the impact of terrorism originating from Afghanistan and Pakistan’s constructive and positive role in addressing the challenge. He reaffirmed that Pakistan’s leadership and people are fully determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism.

The Ambassador reiterated that Pakistan has always given priority to the diplomatic resolution of disputes. He stated that the events of May 2025 once again proved to the world that Pakistan cannot be coerced when it comes to its sovereignty and national dignity.

Rizwan Saeed Sheikh said Indian aggression in May 2025 posed serious threats to regional peace.

Emphasizing the Kashmir issue, he said a just and lasting resolution of the Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and United Nations resolutions, is crucial for regional and global peace, development, and stability.

The Ambassador termed India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as unlawful and unacceptable, and urged the international community to take notice of the illegal and dangerous practice of using water as a weapon.

Participants from American think tanks appreciated Pakistan’s foreign policy, its positive role in global politics and peace, and its mature, effective, and successful diplomacy.
